Set Sail With the “AirBnb” of Boat Rentals

By Isabel Ong

After an extra-long winter, I’m more than ready for Spring’s arrival. My ideal getaway usually involves suntanning on a beach or snorkelling in crystal-clear waters—and if that’s something you enjoy too, you’ll be happy to discover GetMyBoat, a boat rental service that’s available in over 184 countries.

Offering various types of rentals, from luxury yachts and sleek catamarans to fishing boats and kayaks, there’s something for every type of traveller and budget.

You don’t need to know how to sail a boat to rent one, either. That’s because GetMyBoat also offers specialized water-related experiences—think swimming with the pigs in Exuma, the Bahamas; diving in Phi Phi, Thailand; and windsurfing in the Maldives.

Like AirBnB, once you find a listing you like, you send an inquiry directly to the boat owner. He/she will respond with availability and pricing details, and you can then book and pay for your trip online. The website is easy to use, with handy links to popular activities and countries at the bottom of the homepage, and photos of listings so you know exactly what kind of boat you’re getting into.

In Vancouver, there are over 60 boat listings available, with options such as whale watching tours, a lunch or dinner cruise, or speedboat rentals. There are also over 200 boat rentals available on Vancouver Island, with many of them offering fishing charters as well as wildlife tours by kayak.

See you on the water!
